Title: Amarant

Description: Section in the band: Amarant, the Secret Garden.
Amarant won Band of the Year in the 1998 carnival competition.
Amarant is the name of a flower reputed to have grown in a secret maze in the legendary city of Atlantis; made up of two dormant butterflies in the form of a flower, only lovers who touch the flower can bring the butterflies to life.
Female costume consisting of a head piece, cape, loincloth and suit. The costume is in jewel colours of turquoise, pink, purple and lilac. The head piece both resembles the petals of a flower and butterfly wings, and are attached to a jewelled crown. The suit is a silver one piece bathing suit sequinned in pale blue. The cape is in the same fabric as the head piece, also shaped like petals. The costume is completed by the silver beaded armbands and the jewel encrusted silver greaves on the shins.

Title: Angel of Sorrow

Description: Sketches of costumes.
Female costume consisting of a head piece, chest piece, back piece, hip piece and suit. The whole costume is designed as a butterfly. The head piece is a helmet with a feathered front emerging from a medallion, winged sides and a back of layers of strings of pearls. The suit appears to be a bodysuit, worn under a chest piece piece shaped like butterfly wings. The back piece consists of two pairs of wings, patterned with ovals and dots. The hip pieces which project out at the sides have the same pattern. Strings of pearls are draped around the wrists and attached to the wings. The costume is completed by the shinbands which have small wings attached to the sides.

Male costume consisting of a head piece, back piece, shield, cape and suit. The head piece is a helmet with a pair of large curved ram's horns. The back piece is a red and black dartboard with a white centre. The cape is long and red, bordered in black. The suit is a white catsuit with a double sleeve in white, with a black curved pattern at the hems. A long black and white chest piece made of numerous circles is worn over the suit. The shield is round, bordered in black and with the image of a ram's head on it. The costume is completed by the white boots.

Title: Australian Lyre Bird

Description: Female costume consisting of a back piece, head piece, loincloth and suit. The back piece is a large lyre shaped tail emerging from a wide feathered tail. The head piece is a white beaded helmet with a funnel shaped crown of sprouting feathers. The loincloth is made of white fabric falling from a silver belt. The suit is a white bikini. The neck piece is a long white feathered necklace. The costume is completed by the white armbands and the roman style white shinbands.

Title: Beauty and the Beast

Description: Female and male costumes. Male costume consists of a suit, cape, sash and mask. The waistcoat is white with gold embroidery, worn over a long sleeved white shirt with puffed upper sleeves and a small frill at the wrist and neck. The tights are yellow while the white cape is lined with green and embroidered with gold at the hem. The male costume is completed by the purple sash worn across the body and the gold belt which finishes in a tassel and the gorilla mask worn by the masquerader. The female costume is a white ballet dress embroidered with gold on the front, off-the-shoulder sleeves and skirt. The skirt has a green ribbon hem banded in gold and green tinted white petticoats. The female costume is completed by the spray of small golden flowers and ribbons worn in the hair.

Female costume consisting of a standard, head piece, train, belt and suit. The standard is a black flag with an image of a bird resembling a phoenix, in pink, yellow and green. The head piece is a gold leaf wreath with a crown of large pink feathers. The suit is a one piece, green bathing suit. The belt is gold and black with a triangular fringe of pink, gold and white beads. The train is made of tiers of black frills edged in pink and yellow, attached to the seat of the suit. The armbands are the same as the train. The costume is completed by the gold greaves on the shins and the necklace in the same style as the belt.

Swan Lake won Band of the Year in the 1991 carnival competition.

Female costume consisting of a head piece and suit. The head piece is a black hat with a gold bead edge. The suit has a black blouse, cinched in the middle with a white jewel and layered floral patterned sleeves. The skirt has the same fabric and effect as the sleeves. The costume is completed by the pink ballet shoes.

Title: Butterfly [The]

Female costume consisting of a head piece, back piece, chest piece and suit. The back piece is a pair of butterfly wings in green, pink, yellow and blue. The headpiece is a beaded and fringed helmet in the same colours as the wings, with two layers of bushy antennae like sticks projecting from the crown. The suit is a white bikini the top of which has a butterfly shaped chest piece from which is looped silver strings of beads draping around the torso to the back; the pants are covered with a bead fringe belt that is longer in front and falls like a loincloth to the knees. The costume is completed by the shin, arm and wristbands. Long bead strings are looped along the arm and attached to the wristbands.

Title: Byzantine Butterfly

Les Bijoux place 2nd in the 1997 carnival competition.
Male costume consisting of a back piece, head piece and hand piece. The masquerader wears a head piece shaped like a monarch butterfly. The butterfly head piece and back piece are both elaborate byzantine patterns studded with multicoloured stones and each wing of which has a large dark jewel circled with diamonds. The suit consists of gold trunks with three large diamonds suspended like a loincloth. The calf bands have the same butterfly pattern with large diamonds on the shin bones.

Title: Cancer

Male costume consisting of a standard, back piece, cape and suit. The back piece is a large crescent moon with a flaring sunspot in the middle and a set of shooting stars projecting out of one side. The standard is a crescent moon on a pole with a shield with a crab image. The cape is made of layered white, blue and grey spikes interspersed with stars. The masquerader wears a necklace with a large round medallion with the symbol for the cancer sign. The suit is a long sleeved patterned catsuit tucked into white boots. The costume is completed by the strings of beads draped around the arms and the arm and shinbands.

Title: Capricornis

Female costume which depicts the capricornis plant found in the desert of Northern Mexico consisting of a head piece, shoulder piece and suit. The head piece is a yellow capricornis flower worn on the crown of a yellow helmet. The shoulder piece is the green leaves and vines of the flower, spread like a cape from a tight neckband. The suit is a yellow two piece bathing suit and the costume is finished with a yellow flower attached to a green thigh band.

Title: Caravan

Mirage won Band of the Year in the 1994 carnival competition.
Male costume consisting of a robe, head piece, shoulder piece and standard. The standard is the vacuum formed head and neck of a camel wearing a bridle with green and red tassels and a red and white saddle which ends in a purple and red fringed cape which flows down the pole. The head piece is an Arabic styled head cloth held in place with a red beaded gold diadem. The suit is two pieces: a red and purple tent hem striped tunic with a gold fringed hem and a djebellah in light and dark green stripes worn over it like a cape. The costume is completed by a edged black armour piece worn over the neck and finished with a tassel at the pointed end.

Title: Chinese Chime

Description: Section in the band: Strike Up the Band.
Strike Up the Band won Band of the Year in the 1993 carnival competition.
Strike Up the Band was inspired by George Gershwin's work of the same name.
Costume is another version of The Character Chinese Chime, inventory number 317.
Male costume consisting of a robe, head piece and standard. The robe is elaborate, floor length, red with gold fringe and an eye shaped pattern as borders. Simple green bathing trunks with a gold belt and buckle are worn underneath. The standard is a large gold medallion on a red pole; the medallion has an image of two fish facing each other with a Chinese symbol in the centre. The main image is surrounded by a bezel of studs and topped with a pointed Chinese design. There is a long tassel hanging from the base of the medallion. The head piece is a gold hat shaped like a Chinese pagoda. The costume is completed by a gold rattle with a tassel, carried by the masquerader.

The suit is a blue and red bikini, the top of which crosses over at the neckline. The train is in four panels of cobalt blue, red and gold, two of which are attached to the gold armbands. The costume is completed by the gold beaded upper armbands.

Title: Cockerel (The)

Female costume which consists of a head piece, back piece, tail piece and suit. The back piece is made up of fan shaped gold pieces with a pink, black and white circular pattern from which are projected long, narrow pink and purple feathers. The head piece is a vacuum formed cockerel's head in gold and red with the gold beak projecting over the forehead on a gold helmet. The suit is a one piece bathing suit in an elaborate gold and red swirling pattern. The tail consists of the pink and purple feathers projecting outwards from the hips. Gold comb like forms fall down the thighs from the hips. The costume is completed by the gold embossed upper and wristbands and the gold roman style footwear.

Male costume consisting of a head piece, back piece and suit. The head piece is a vacuum-formed cock's head complete with comb fitted like a helmet. The back piece is a multi-coloured tail that extends high above the head. There is a combined chestplate and necklace, which starts as a wide black collar edged in white, with black and pink petal shapes, extending to a pink edged black chestplate that narrows down to the bathing trunks which is in a black, white and pink camouflage pattern. The costume is completed by pink, blue and gold banded arm and legbands.

Title: Crystal Angel

Les Bijoux placed 2nd in the 1997 carnival competition.
Female costume which consists of butterfly wings, body suit and armbands. The Greeks use the word "Krystallos" meaning "clear ice" derived from the transparency of crystal. The wings are shaped like butterfly wings, with blue backgrounds and encrusted with diamonds. The body suit is a one piece light blue bathsuit, shaped like a corset; from the breastbone hangs a diamond pendant spray. A diamond loincloth is worn over the suit the seat of which displays a light blue train. A single large diamond worn in the hair and blue armbands complete the costume.

The costume is completed by the green armband with long yellow and green fringe and the embossed gold greaves on the shins.

Title: Danger in the Deep

Description: Female costume consisting of a head piece, back piece, train and suit. The head piece is a gold helmet with white and purple pearls, a fringe of pearls and back crown of wavy plumes. The back piece is very elaborate, consisting of several large corals such as sea fans and sea weed in gold, red and blue; included is a large red octupus caught in a fishing net and wrapped around the masquerader and a large purple clam expulsing strings of pearls and a large starfish. The train is tiered, purple and edged in red with a frothy white wave at the sides of the skirt and a white coral pattern on the tiers. The suit is a purple bathing suit with one long sleeve that is embellished with gold and white starfish and pearls; the front of the suit is also decorated the same way, with a belt of starfish and dangling pearls. The costume is completed by the fishnet stockings worn by the masquerader and the gold and white greaves on the shins.

Title: Elephant Girl

Female costume consisting of a suit, head piece, hand piece and cape. The hand piece is an elephants's head with an ornate pink and gold beaded hood with pendants falling over the elephant's forehead and looped pink and gold cord ending in gold tassels; these are reminiscent of Indian bridal wear. The head piece is a gold helmet with a sunburst framing the face, large pink and gold fronds are projected from the crown of the helmet. The suit is a gold bikini, the pants of which are held in place by an ornate gold belt with beaded fringe resembling a loincloth. The masquerader wears a long pink cape and a gold beaded necklace looped several times. The costume is finished with pink banded gold armbands and black fishnet stockings.

The back piece is divided into two: a large silver spider's web on one side and a red moon's face on a black background on the other. The tunic is long and narrow, half in red and the other with silver strips on a black background. The suit is a black catsuit with long sleeves. The costume is completed by the red shinbands.

Band made for St Maarten carnival 1998.
Female costume consisting of a back piece, head piece, suit and train. The back piece is a fan-shaped form of red, yellow and black flames, topped with a black arch then a tall crest of red and yellow feathers. The head piece is a gold helmet with flames framing the face, a gold ball on the crown which holds long red and yellow fronds. The suit is a red and gold bikini with an elaborate embossed pattern and fringed and beaded hems on both pieces. Red and gold feathers are attached to the hips of the pants. A long red and gold train is also attached to the back seat of the pants. The costume is completed by the red banded yellow arm and calfbands; red and gold feathers are attached to the upper armbands.

The neck / shoulder piece consists of wide orange, red and gold, beaded feathers which frame the masquerader's head, face and bust, forming a petal like form that curves downward covering the masquerader's groin. The backpiece frames the masquerader's body in feathers of peach, orange, red, beaded on the edges and scattered throughout. The suit appears to be a flesh coloured piece worn under a red jewel studded, metal, perforated breast plate.

Description: Female costume consisting of a head piece, mask, back piece, train and suit. The head piece is a white mask, with some green embellishments covering the masquerader's face and with brown twig like appendages behind it. The back piece is made in several parts: the centre is white, with a shape that mimics a dove's wings, attached to the larger outer piece by brown filaments. The top half of the outer circle of the back piece looks like a stained glass window in cobalt blue, turquoise, green and grey held together by the brown lead and edged in a green grass like substance; the lower half is in white striped in white feathers. The train is long, narrow and white at the top, like a dove's tail, widening at the bottom where it becomes brown and edged in white and green. The suit is a white bikini with green edging on the top, embellished with strings of white and gold pearls that drape around the masquerader's body and fall into a loincloth at the front. The costume is completed by the white gloves and wristbands worn by the masquerader and the white, peaked front boots that have green leaves attached to the sides.

Male costume consisting of a standard, cape, head piece and suit. The standard is a blue pole topped by a gold lion's head with a curly mane and from which is hung a very long gold tassel. The suit consists of a gold perforated waistcoat from which a floor length gold tassel is suspended, and blue bathing trunks, over which is worn a blue and gold belt in a triangular tile pattern. A long blue cape is worn. The head piece consists of a gold crown with narrow funnels in blue and which widens slightly to the top; it is topped with a small ball from which very long blue and green feathers fall. The masquerader wears a gold eyemask with elongated eyes. The costume is completed by gold upper armbands, wrist bands and gold knee high boots.

The cape is shaped like red, black and gold flames falling to the ground with a short gold capelet over the shoulders and a chestplate of gold scales in front. The suit is a pair of gold bathing trunks in a scale pattern with a gold studded belt. There is a long black tail attached to the seat of the costume. The costume is completed by gold studded arm and calfbands and a pair of knee high boots painted with an image of cloven hooves on the toes. Silver and gold chains are draped over the masquerader.

The head piece is a helmet with a yellow and orange dragon in flight. The collar is gold with blue and green enamel inlays. The suit is a pair of baggy trousers in the same multi-colours as the flag, worn under a gold belt. The costume is completed by the black boots and the yellow, black and green armbands.

Male costume consisting of standard, hand piece, head piece, chestplate, loincloth and cape. The standard is a striped gold and blue pole. The hand piece is the head and neck of a giraffe. The head piece is a silvery turban with a long side frill, topped by a gold coronet and then long, narrow blue feathers on the crown, reminiscent of a Moorish turban. The gold chestplate is divided into two parts: a triangular piece over the chest and abdomen with blue circles inside, a long gold tassel at the triangle peak and then three wide rib-like bars attached to the triangle and fastening behind the back. The suit is a pair of blue bathing trunks over which is worn a silvery loincloth that is attached to both of the masquerader's ankles forming baggy trousers. A short giraffe patterned cape appears to be attached to one armband, the pair of which are in bands of blue, gold and silver; similarly the legbands.

The costume is completed by the white wig decorated with bluebirds, pink feathers and flowers, green ribbons and strings of white pearls; a bluebird is attached to a string of white pearls falling from the hair and finishing on the wrist.

The standard is a mask painted in blue, white and purple, with a fanged face on a red, black and white pole and with ribbons of the same colour attached to a metal circle. The cape is a black mesh with a broad purple edge and black fringe. The head piece is a stringy black wig with a white fringe diadem and black, purple and white braided daidem. The sash is purple with a black fringe. The suit is a pair of purple bathing trunks. The costume is completed by the purple and black banded shin and armbands.

Amarant is the name of a flower reputed to have grown in a secret maze in the legendary city of Atlantis; made up of two dormant butterflies in the form of a flower, only lovers who touch the flower can bring the butterflies to life.
Female costume consisting of a standard, head piece, loincloth and suit. The standard is a black flag with an image of a fern with a centre like a peacock's feather. The head piece is a gold diadem with a pink jewel and a back fan of yellow and green fern leaves. The loincloth is a peacock like leaf on a black background attached to a gold and pink belt and with a green fabric fringe. The suit is a turquoise bikini, the bra of which has a small fabric corsage. The costume is completed by the pink and gold armbands and the gold embossed greaves with green jewels.

Male costume consisting of a head piece, breastplate and armbands. Silver, white and blue are the dominant colours of this costume. The masquerader wears an elaborate peacock shaped helmet in silver each large outer feather of which is capped with a mother-of-pearl stone and the smaller inner feathers with a cabochon turquoise. Attached to the masquerader's blue armbands are chains capped with large triangular shaped mother-of-pearl stones. There are large turquoise stones suspended from silver chains on the collar of the costume. Light blue arm and calf bands complete the costume.

Female costume consisting of a back piece / tail, head piece and suit. The back piece is the peacock's tail consisting of seven large feathers attached to a dark silver background. The head piece is a bi-level crown attached to a silver helmet with small acquamarine feathers over the forehead. The suit is a high necked lilac bikini, the top of which is covered with a feathered necklace and stings of beads which drape around the torso and to the back. Two large feathers are attached to the seat of the costume and fall on either side of the hip. The costume is completed by the white roman style sandals which have a peacock feather at the top and the arm and wristbands which are feathered and have long bead strings suspended.

The strapless one piece bathing suit is in green and gold. The necklace is a large dark green tear-drop pendant of peridot. A green floor length train is attached to the bathing suit of the masquerader, and green armbands complete the costume.

The floor length skirt is teal with a triangular patterned border in the same colours as the flag. The loincloth is semi-circular and green, attached to a gold belt, with a purple triangular patterned hem and gold tassels. The costume is completed by the gold embossed wristbands and gold sandals.

The back piece is also round, made of concentric circles in pink and yellow and with a large scorpion in the middle. The cape is white with a hem patterned with a pink stripe and triangles. The suit is a gold and pink bodysuit with short sleeves, one puffed and the other fringed, with a star shaped pattern near the groin. A neck piece of spikes is worn over the suit. A pink catsuit is worn under the suit. A rope is draped over the chest and hips and worn as a sash. The costume is completed by the patterned tights and white shoes.

Female costume consisting of an elobrately beaded suit and head piece. The head piece is a silver and blue spider's web attached to a silver beaded wig and with a long blue feather boa hanging off the back. The suit is a high necked silver one piece bathsuit with a narrow strip over the stomach joining the bra to the pants. There is a belt with large blue diamond shaped jewels worn over the pants the latter of which ends in a silver ball fringe. The masquerader wears a silver choker from which hang long strings of silver beads attached to one silver wristband and then to a blue jewelled wristband. The costume is finished with silver and blue upper armbands.

Amarant is the name of a flower reputed to have grown in a secret maze in the legendary city of Atlantis; made up of two dormant butterflies in the form of a flower, only lovers who touch the flower can bring the butterflies to life.
Female costume consisting of a head piece, arm piece and suit. The head and arm pieces work together to form the body of a bird. The arm pieces are multi-coloured wings in yellow, orange and purple covering the shoulders and arms. The head piece is a bird's crest, curved forward on a gold helmet and in the same colours. The suit is a one piece gold bathing suit with and embossed pattern and from which is thrust a long feathered tail. The costume is completed by ornate gold greaves worn on the shins.

Male costume consisting of a standard, head piece, sash and suit. The standard is a round black circle on a black and white banded pole with black and long white and white fringe. The head piece is a crowned black swan on a white helmet. The suit has a white sleeveless tank top worn with a pair of trousers broadly banded in grey, black and white. A grey sash with white fringe and edges is worn over the suit. The costume is completed by the black and white armbands, white socks and black shoes.

Amarant is the name of a flower reputed to have grown in a secret maze in the legendary city of Atlantis; made up of two dormant butterflies in the form of a flower, only lovers who touch the flower can bring the butterflies to life.
Female costume consisting of a head piece, collar, loincloth cape and suit. The head piece consists of a silver helmet with elaborate horns, decorated in pink, green and silver, and also resembling an orchid or a stingray. The collar is gold with pink, green and blue jewel inlays and finished with a gold tassel on the shoulders and peaked front. The suit is a pink bikini. The loincloth is similarly patterned like the collar and has a green fabric fringe. The cape is irridescent silver with a pattern of silver flowers. The costume is completed by the gold greaves decorated with green.

The cape is yellow mesh. The suit is a pair of blue bathing trunks. The costume is completed by the gold armbands and the purple, blue and green shinbands.

Title: Tiger Eyes

Description: Female costume consisting of a back piece, head piece and suit. The back piece is elaborate, consisting of a large silver and white sequinned circle on which is painted a pair of large blue eyes; this is circled by a small black frill, a large white frill and eleven navy blue flags on flagpoles. The base of the back piece has a train like effect with beaded white fabric with a border in a circle pattern. The head piece is a silvery, beaded helmet in a spike pattern and with long silver spikes on the crown. The suit is a one piece white, sequinned bathing suit with a ruffled neckline and from which is suspended a diamond shaped necklace attached to strings of pearls which drape around the hips and thighs. The costume is completed by the white armbands and the perforated knee high white boots.

Female costume consisting of a standard, head piece, loincloth and suit. The standard is a black flag with the image of a tiger in the centre of a lily. The head piece is a tiger patterned diadem with a bunch of small yellow flowers attached to one side. The suit is a green bikini with a corsage of flowers and beads on the bra front. The loincloth is a tiger patterned scarf tied around the front and falling down to the knees. The costume is completed by the armbands, one in a tiger patterned fabric with a long fringe, the other green and the gold, roman style sandals.

Title: Tiger's Eye

Les Bijoux placed 2nd in the 1997 carnival competition.
Male costume which consists of a pair of baggy breeches, head piece and a standard. The gemstone, Tiger's Eye resembles the eye of a tiger, and the dominant colours are orange, brown and gold. The breeches are puffed like pantaloons to mid thigh in gold then narrow down to the feet in black; banded in orange at the knees. The standard and head piece are both patterned like a tiger's face, made of gold medallions with jewelled eyes and from which float gold streamers. The head piece is shaped like a helmet. The breeches are held in place with a wide gold metallic cummerbund the same pattern of which is seen in the sash which crosses the body.

The costume is completed by the pink armbands to which are attached kimono like sleeves in a lilac and pink bamboo pattern, with the same border as the skirt and a black pompom fringe.

The costume is completed by the black armbands, one of which has a long, tiger patterned scarf which is draped around the masquerader like a skirt and knotted on one side.

Male costume consisting of a head piece, standard and chest and shoulder piece. The headpiece is a vacuum formed gold cockerel's head with jewels encrusted in each comb. The standard is a large blue six sided jewel surrounded by a six sided wreath of feathers, the inner small feathers in gold and the large outer feathers in dark blue. The chest and shoulder piece is a feathered cold shoulder shawl worn on over one shoulder and then under one arm in the same colours as the standard. The suit is a pair of blue bathing trunks. The costume is completed by blue arm and calf bands. A set of feathers is attached to one calf band.

Title: Tribal Zircon 'Female'

Female costume consisting of head piece, standard and waistpiece. The colour is predominantly electric blue with touches of white and black. The standard is a large blue hexagon shaped jewel atop a long pole covered in a blue and white candy striped fabric. The head piece is a vacuum formed gold cockerel's head, each comb tip of which is ended with a blue jewel. Three blue feathered boas hang from the bottom of the head piece, two of which are attached to the masquerader's wrists. The body suit consists of a one piece bathsuit with a blue bra top and then black and white asymmetrical stripes. The waist piece consists of a pair of gold and jewelled wings attached to a gold encrusted belt and under which hangs light blue fabric wings, draped and falling in points on either side of the masquerader. Gold armbands complete the costume.

The white trousers are topped with a gold and red belt and tucked into knee high black boots that have gold stirrups over the instep. The costume is completed by red and gold armbands.

The standard is a zebra striped flag with an uneven hem. The costume is completed by a hairy flyswatter held in one hand and knee high black boots.
