Title: African Drums

Description: Section in the band: Strike Up the Band.
Strike Up the Band won Band of the Year in the 1993 carnival competition.
Strike Up the Band was inspired by George Gershwin's work of the same name.
Male costume consisting of a head piece, standard, loincloth and suit. The standard is a cylindrical shaped object in a camouflage pattern of green, pink, yellow and black, with ribbons in the same colour floating downwards, attached to a black pole. The head piece is a white hairy mane. The chest piece consists of beaded strings worn across the torso, attached in the back and falling from a green and pink choker. The suit consists of two layers of puffy short pants in the camouflage fabric but with a wide gold belt over it. A black loincloth with a gold border and a gold tassel is worn over the trousers. The costume is completed by the gold belled shinbands and the striped armbands.

Title: Kilimanjaro

Description: Section in the band: Mirage.
Mirage won Band of the Year in the 1994 carnival competition.
Male costume consisting of a head piece, standard, neckpiece and djebellah. The standard is a black and white African mask the crown of which has small green and white feathers topped by a tall black and silver coronet; the fabric which falls from the standard and is attached to one wrist of the masquerader is in a camouflage pattern of blue, green, yellow and white. The head piece is a tall silver crown of narrow spikes the base of which has small round beads and from which hangs a long djebellah in the camouflage fabric. The neckpiece is a wide collar of bi-level triangles in blue, green, yellow and black edged in white, the neck of which has a white background with small black dots. The armbands are broadly striped in blue, green and black, as are the calfbands. The suit is a pair of black bathing trunks over which is worn a triangular loincloth in blue and white.

Title: Zulu

Description: Female costume consisting of a shield, head piece, loincloth and suit. The shield has a black and white zebra pattern with a white border. The head piece is made of a white hairy mane with a long tail that falls down the back to the floor attached to a diadem that has white chains attached to each side. The suit is a silver and black studded tunic like piece, with a demi bra that is fringed and falls into a beaded strings that drape over the hips to the back. The loincloth is layered in green and black and white, both with fringe and a green studded silver belt. The costume is completed by the black and white banded shinbands which are attached to the black shoes and the hairy armbands.

Description: Male costume consisting of a head piece, shield, collar, loincloth and suit. The shield is in a white and black pattern with a broad white edge. The head piece is a green jewelled diadem with a long white mane. The collar is black, white and green, studded with green jewels and finished with a white fringe. The black and white patterned loincloth is long, white fringed and attached to a belt. The suit is a pair of white bathing trunks. The costume is completed by the hair wrist and legbands.
