Title: Chinese Chime

Description: Section in the band: Strike Up the Band.
Strike Up the Band won Band of the Year in the 1993 carnival competition.
Strike Up the Band was inspired by George Gershwin's work of the same name.
Costume is another version of The Character Chinese Chime, inventory number 317.
Male costume consisting of a robe, head piece and standard. The robe is elaborate, floor length, red with gold fringe and an eye shaped pattern as borders. Simple green bathing trunks with a gold belt and buckle are worn underneath. The standard is a large gold medallion on a red pole; the medallion has an image of two fish facing each other with a Chinese symbol in the centre. The main image is surrounded by a bezel of studs and topped with a pointed Chinese design. There is a long tassel hanging from the base of the medallion. The head piece is a gold hat shaped like a Chinese pagoda. The costume is completed by a gold rattle with a tassel, carried by the masquerader.

Title: Chinese Emperor

Description: Male costume consisting of a traditional styled Chinese male garment. The suit is in prussian blue with a wide navy blue border and narrow white trim on the jacket and sleeves. The trousers are in the same colour. The masquerader wears a navy head tie and white Chinese shoes.

Title: Fan Tan

Description: Male costume consisting of a standard, head piece and suit. The standard is an orange Chinese ceramic bowl with a purple interior, placed upside down on the pole, with brown hanging pieces resembling bean sprouts. The head piece is the same upside down bowl. The suit is a Chinese styled cheongsam bodice in blue, with an orange neckline, pink edged sleeves and Chinese characters in two white circles on the chest and a gold fringe on the hem. The suit includes purple tights. The costume is completed by the brown boots.

Title: Magician (The)

Description: Section in the band: Trapeze.
Female costume consisting of a head piece, chest piece, robe and suit. The head piece is a helmet with a gold lion's head with two green eyes atop the head and a shaggy mane. There are long green and gold feathers interspersed with beaded projectiles around the mane. The robe is a Chinese purple one with a blue border that has a gold scroll pattern. The chest piece is a gold and blue amour plate in a triangular pattern worn over the robe. The suit is a purple bikini, the pants of which are beaded on one hip.

Title: Mah Jong

Description: Section in the band: Play the Game.
Male costume consisting of a standard, head piece, shoulder / chest piece, loincloth and suit. The standard is a black mah jong tile with red, green and gold circles. The head piece is a gold helmet with a sunburst of gold beads and a red, green and gold circular centre emerging from a black braid that hangs down the back. The shoulder / chest piece is red armour, curved up at the ends and egded in gold and silver with eight circles attached by gold cords. The loincloth is red with four gold tassels hanging off each corner. The suit is a pair of white tights. The costume is completed by one banded wristband in red, green and gold and the other gold with a medallion in the same colours hanging off it like a tassel. The costume is completed by the gold boots.

Title: Mah Jong Character

Male costume consisting of a standard, head piece, shoulder / chest piece, loincloth, cape and suit. The standard is a red Chinese character on a tile. The head piece is a gold Chinese crown. The shoulder piece is gold armour to which are attached red Chinese characters which fall to the waist. The loincloth is white with a gold belt and fringe and a black painted Chinese character. The cape is red with a black lining. The costume is completed by the yellow tights, gold boots and wristband.

Title: Mah Jong Flowers

Description: Section in the band: Play the Game.
Female costume consisting of a standard, head piece, back piece and suit. The standard is a pink flower on a beige and gold rectangle, the traditional shape of the mah jong tiles. The back piece consists of a large pink flower on a green stalk projecting from either side of the masquerader's back. The head piece is a pair of carnations, one pink, the other yellow, and a gold comb with multi-coloured balls and tassels. The suit is a short yellow kimono with long sleeves with a floral pattern; the skirt has box pleats egded in purple. The kimono is worn under a one shouldered pale pink tunic with purple, green, yellow and brown edging and a pink flower pattern. The costume is completed by the pink fishnet stockings and the gold shoes.

Title: Shangrila

Description: Male costume consisting of a standard, head piece, collar, suit, sash and half train. The standard is a gold rectangle with a pink triangle in the middle and pink border; there are two long gold tassels on cords hanging from the base of the flag on the pink pole. The head piece is shaped like a tri-level gold temple, pink-bordered and with a tall spike on the crown; there are bunches of gold grapes hanging on either side of the head. The collar is purple with a black sunburst pattern on a gold background. The suit is a pair of gold bathing trunks worn under a gold belt with a gold, pink and white triangular pattern. The sash is gold, lined in pink, worn across the body and tied behind the back. The half train is made of layered ruffles in purple and red as is one upper arm band. The other arm band is red and purple striped as well as one leg band. The costume is completed by the single red wrist band.
