Cirque des Follies won Band of the Year in the 1997 carnival competition.
Berkeley: Cirque des Follies is a great mixture of costumes and situations, taken from the Follies Bergere and influenced by the 'Cirque du Soleil'. All the costumes are pure fantasy, and do not relate to any given place or time. It is more like a spectacle, a show of costumes, and in some way relates to jewelry.
Female costume consisting of a head piece,back piece and suit. The suit is a blue and pink bikini, with large blue feathers attached to the pants like a tail. A belt with one large blue stone and a white beaded fringe is worn over the pants like a loincloth. The head piece is a blue helmet studded with large blue jewels and small gold diamonds and capped with an arch of large blue feathers on the crown. The back piece is a crescent shaped brooch of blue and gold jewels. The costume is completed by white arm and handbands, a long feather boa and high white roman type sandals.

Title: Aerial Adventure

Female costume consisting of a suit, head piece and standard. The standard is a blue and silver striped pole. The head piece is a helmet with a silver and blue sunburst pattern at the temples and six large blue feathers fanning out above the head, attached to the crown. There are large silver rings falling on either side of the jaws which are mock earrings. The suit is a blue one-piece bathsuit with a deep V neckline lined in silver with a silver necklace with a long line of rings falling to the chest. A silver belt with silver ball fringe is worn over the suit and falls in a triangle to the knees. Silver and blue banded arm and legbands complete the costume.

Title: Big Top

Female costume consisting of a head piece and suit. The suit consists of two-pieces: a yellow bikini top and a skirt made of strips extending from the waist to floor level. The head piece is a gold helmet with a small flag extending upwards from a small gold ball. The skirt is a replica of a circus tent with alternating strips of blue and yellow from a narrow top to the wide bottom which also has the addition of white stripes. Blue armbands capped with gold bands complete the costume.

Title: Circus Holiday

Female costume consisting of a head piece, suit, cape and hand pieces. The head piece is a gold, green and blue helmet that extends in a peak on the forehead of the masquerader, with wings on either side that have a scale like pattern; acquamarine blue narrow feathers are projected from the crown of the head piece. Armbands extend the length of the arm in a triangular pattern of acquamarine blue, purple, green and gold. The cape consists of acquamarine blue and purple feathers that has a gold shawl collar and fringed gold lapels held together with a snowflake in front. The floor length skirt is in the same pattern as the armbands and is split in front to the waist; this is topped by an elaborate gold belt with tentacle like fabric hanging to the calves, each of which are decorated with a jewelled applique and jewelled loincloth. The two hand pieces are irregularly shaped swathes of fabric in gold and acquamarine blue attached to short poles and waved by the masquerader.

Title: Circus Music

Female costume consisting of a back piece, head piece, cape, train and suit. The back piece is made up of strands of beaded wires, forming a frond on one side of the body, in red and white. The white cape, beaded in similar fashion is attached to the back piece, as though they are one, with medallions holding it in place at the hips. The cape is patterned like black and white piano keyboards, each of which is edged in red and white beads. The train is white with beads and edged in red, attached to the back of the body. the head piece is a helmet beaded in white, red and black. The suit is high necked, one piece, with the top beaded, the torso in red beaded black fishnet and the pants embossed with a beaded loincloth. The costume is completed by the music note mesh stole across one arm, the elbow length red gloves and the beaded and jewelled shinbands.

Female costume consisting of a standard, head piece and suit. The masquerader has a long baton in her hand and the head piece is a tall red kepi with white plumes extending upwards. The main costume is a military looking one-piece red bathsuit with a frilly white train edged in red attached to the seat of the uniform and falling to the knees. The front of the suit is banded in white with gold buttons. The masquerader wears gold braid epaulettes, looped and falling from one side of the chest to a fringed loop at the hips. The dominant colours are black and white with touches of black. The masquerader wears white and black gauntlets edged in gold. White knee-length boots that rise in a point to the knees and edged in gold finish the costume

Title: Elephant Girl

The hand piece is an elephants's head with an ornate pink and gold beaded hood with pendants falling over the elephant's forehead and looped pink and gold cord ending in gold tassels; these are reminiscent of Indian bridal wear. The head piece is a gold helmet with a sunburst framing the face, large pink and gold fronds are projected from the crown of the helmet. The suit is a gold bikini, the pants of which are held in place by an ornate gold belt with beaded fringe resembling a loincloth. The masquerader wears a long pink cape and a gold beaded necklace looped several times. The costume is finished with pink banded gold armbands and black fishnet stockings.

Title: Emerald Sun

Les Bijoux placed 2nd in the 1997 carnival competition.
Female costume which consists of a one piece bathing-suit, armbands and an elaborate head piece. The head piece is yellow and papyrus shaped, with beads cascading from it, the two forming a circle. At the centre of the arc is a flower with an emerald. Large emeralds are also draped diagonally across the torso of the yellow suit of the masquerader, from shoulder to the left hip. Yellow armbands complete the costume.

Female costume consisting of a head piece, train, sash and suit. The head piece is constructed like two arcs, one on top the other, beginning with a gold helmet inset with blue and green spikes that resemble the sun's rays, a large green emerald with a diamond sunburst pattern around the main stone and an arc of yellow feathers surrounding it; crowning this is a large arch of emerald green feathers attached to a gold sunburst-liked frame. The masquerader wears a wide gold collar and a sash across the body down to the thighs encrusted with blue, green and white jewels. The suit is a strapless gold bathing suit. A multi-tiered train of yellow and green is attached to the back of the costume. The costume is finished by gold armbands and perforated gold greaves worn on the shins.

The suit is basic gold bathing trunks, with a black and white cape draped over one shoulder. The headtie is a long and flowing red fabric tied pirate-like around the head. The armbands and legbands are banded in silver, red gold and black. A gold sash is worn diagonally across the body and from which hangs a gold tassel.

Title: Flaring Flagwavers

Female costume consisting of a standard, head piece and suit. The standard is a very large pennant in blue, orange and yellow attached to a short pole. The gold head piece is in three parts: a gold helmet framing the face, a piece atop that with sun-like rays and finally large gold feathers on the crown. The suit is a two-piece bikini the top of which is yellow with a flared hem with gold bells. The pants are covered by a loincloth type skirt in a triangular shape in black, orange, yellow and blue with the jingle bell hem. Long yellow feathers are attached to the seat of the pants like a tail. The costume is completed by yellow boots with yellow armbands.
The costume is reminiscent of the Trinidad and Tobago "flagwoman" who carries the flags and banners for steelbands.

Title: Flying Trapeze

Female costume consisting of a head piece, cape and suit. The head piece is a gold pirate's scarf with a gold diadem over it and several large pink fronds attached to the front of the diadem. A pink cape flows from one shoulder of the masquerader. The pink bathing suit has a deep V neckline to the waist, the vee of which is edged in gold braid and finished with a gold medallion at the navel. An elaborate gold pendant keeps the two sides of the top together. The bikini pants consists of an ornate gold belt under which a gold beaded loincloth hangs. A long gold sash is attached to one side of the hip. The armbands are pink mesh topped in a gold armlet with gold bead strings. Knee high gold boots complete the costume.

Female costume consisting of a back piece, head piece and suit. The back piece is made of two arcs of brown or smoky topaz coloured feathers on a gold ladder like frame, the smaller closer to the back and the larger projecting high above the masquerader, the base of the arcs are studded with jewels. The silver head piece is a turban embellished with purple roses, a sequinned butterfly, silver feathers and strings of pearls. The suit consists of a sequinned silver bra top. A silver pearl sash is worn across the body, with purple roses and a silver pearl cluster attached to one shoulder which ends in a bow at the other hip and is similarly decorated. The suit is completed by a wide pannier style skirt with three tiers: in white drapes, a white and black tic tac toe pattern tier and finally a white underskirt with a large black rose pattern on the hem. The costume is finished with a wide white bracelet and a silver necklace.

Male costume consisting of a head piece, back piece and suit. The head piece consists of a large disco ball worn atop a spiked gold helmet with curved gold spikes surrounding the base of the spike. The main body of the costume consists of silver leggings with silver boots that have a gold band at the top. The back piece has several spikes radiating outwards in a sunburst pattern and attached to that is a blue cape lined with orange and edged with gold. The necklace has a tiered silver and gold diamond shaped pattern. Gold and silver arm and wrist bands complete the costume.

Title: Golden Dragon Acrobats

Male costume consisting of a standard, cape, head piece and suit. The standard is a blue pole topped by a gold lion's head with a curly mane and from which is hung a very long gold tassel. The suit consists of a gold perforated waistcoat from which a floor length gold tassel is suspended, and blue bathing trunks, over which is worn a blue and gold belt in a triangular tile pattern. A long blue cape is worn. The head piece consists of a gold crown with narrow funnels in blue and which widens slightly to the top; it is topped with a small ball from which very long blue and green feathers fall. The masquerader wears a gold eyemask with elongated eyes. The costume is completed by gold upper armbands, wrist bands and gold knee high boots.

Title: It's Magic

Male costume consisting of tuxedo suit, top hat, cape and back piece. The blue tuxedo trousers have white stars scattered liberally throughout them and a white cape with a blue band is attached to a sleeveless blue short jacket with a silver pattern on the lapels. The back piece consists of six birds in flight which are in decreasing size attached to flexible rods. Blue armbands with a large white cuff, a blue top hat with gold fronds, a long blue and white striped wand and a gold bow-tie complete the costume.

Title: Keeper of the Giraffe

Description: Section in the band: Trapeze.
Male costume consisting of standard, hand piece, head piece, chestplate, loincloth and cape. The standard is a striped gold and blue pole. The hand piece is the head and neck of a giraffe. The head piece is a silvery turban with a long side frill, topped by a gold coronet and then long, narrow blue feathers on the crown, reminiscent of a Moorish turban. The gold chestplate is divided into two parts: a triangular piece over the chest and abdomen with blue circles inside, a long gold tassel at the triangle peak and then three wide rib-like bars attached to the triangle and fastening behind the back. The suit is a pair of blue bathing trunks over which is worn a silvery loincloth that is attached to both of the masquerader's ankles forming baggy trousers. A short giraffe patterned cape appears to be attached to one armband, the pair of which are in bands of blue, gold and silver; similarly the legbands.

All That Jazz placed 3rd in the 1978 Band of the Year carnival competition.
Male costume consisting of a head piece, back piece, cape and suit. The head piece is a helmet shaped like a lion's, completely covering the face, with a bouffant gold mane. The cape is shaggy, in red, yellow and orange, worn over one shoulder. The back piece is a large circle edged in red, yellow and orange and a black flame pattern in the centre, reminiscent of the flaming hoops used by lion tamers in circuses. The suit is cold-shouldered and black, in a shaggy pattern like hair. The costume is completed by the chains suspended from the arm and wristbands and the peaked front white boots.

The head piece is a white hat with an orange scarf and large orange fronds attached to the back. The hand piece is a large gold and orange lion's head from which hang orange, white and gold ribbons. The masquerader wears orange armbands which are banded in white and carries a whip. The legbands are orange greaves or Greek ornamental leg shields.

Berkeley: Cirque des Follies is a great mixture of costumes and situations, taken from the Follies Bergere and influenced by the 'Cirque du Soleil'. All the costumes are pure fantasy, and do not relate to any given place or time. It is more like a spectacle, a show of costumes, and in some way relates to jewelry.
Female costume consisting of a suit, headdress and back piece. The head piece is a helmet made of branches of white flowers on gold stalks, with a pink and white floral coronet on the crown and gold taselled combs hanging on either side of the temples, in the oriental geisha fashion; strings of white pearls are suspended from the combs. The suit is a one piece pink sequinned bathing suit with strings of pearls hanging from one hip. The back piece consists of pink feather boas attached to large purple fronds, worn low on the back almost to the hips. The costume is completed by a pair of pale pink elbow length gloves and a pair of tights patterned with a black lacy design on the shins.

Female costume consisting of a back piece, head piece and suit. The back piece is a very elaborate and large series of six circles with feathers that resemble pinwheels, forming an arch over the back. The pinwheels have a large pink and orange jewel in the centre surrounded by a bezel of pink and orange semi-circles and large pink feathers interspersed with long, narrow pink feathers. The head piece is a tight black helmet with a sequinned front across the forehead, a white jewelled half-moon shape on the crown adorned with pink diamond shapes and a long pink feather boa hanging in the back. The suit is a one piece pink and gold bathing suit with a diamond brooch between the breasts and gold pants with a diamond fringe. The costume completed with gold perforated greaves on the shins and pink armbands with a very long beaded fringe.

Title: Rum-Tum Tiger

Female costume consisting of a hand piece, head piece, suit and whip. The hand piece is a large green, gold and white hoop with the image of a tiger leaping through it. The head piece is a gold diadem with a medallion pattern, gold roses attached to one side and large gold fronds projecting from the centre of the roses. The suit is a gold fringed green bikini, the top of which has a gold tassel hanging from the bra top. There is green, gold fringed shawl worn over the pants held in place by a gold belt with the same medallion pattern as the diadem. A long gold feather boa enhanced with gold bead strings hangs from one hip. The armbands are green with ornate gold cuffs.

Female costume consisting of a standard, head piece, neckpiece and suit. The standard is a blue and white striped pole with a crescent shaped fan of blue and white jewels and large white feathers. The head piece is a wide helmet with blue and white jewels, a large blue stone on the forehead, silver beaded fringe at each ear with blue feather boas and topped with large white feathers on the crown. The neckpiece is a choker of strings of silver beads attached to the blue jewelled lower armbands. The suit is a blue and white one piece bathing suit embellished with a silver sequinned front insert and ending in a blue jewelled belt with silver fringe. The costume is finished with a blue jewelled calf band and silver studded upper armbands.

The top of the suit is a long sleeved striped tee-shirt in red and yellow, blue baggy pants tucked into red and white striped legbands, a white frilly ruff and a yellow floppy hat with large red feathers. Multi-coloured balloons attached to long strings complete the costume.

Female costume consisting of an elobrately beaded suit and head piece. The head piece is a silver and blue spider's web attached to a silver beaded wig and with a long blue feather boa hanging off the back. The suit is a high necked silver one piece bathsuit with a narrow strip over the stomach joining the bra to the pants. There is a belt with large blue diamond shaped jewels worn over the pants the latter of which ends in a silver ball fringe. The masquerader wears a silver choker from which hang long strings of silver beads attached to one silver wristband and then to a blue jewelled wristband. The costume is finished with silver and blue upper armbands.

Female costume consisting of a back piece, head piece, train, and suit. The back piece is a purple feathered fan attached to a gold arch. The head piece is an elaborate gold wavy pair of earrings encrusted with purple jewels, worn over the ears, three large jewels on top on the crown and concluded with large lilac feathers. The suit is a backless one piece gold bathing suit with a purple triangular front insert, beaded between the breasts and under the waist. A multi-tiered purple, lilac and gold train is attached to the back of the costume which is finished by the purple armbands and gold greaves with a large blue jewel in the centre, on the shins.

Male costume consisting of a cape, hand piece and standard. The standard is a red and gold pennant on a black pole. The costume has a long purple cape with a border of gold and white triangles on a black background. A white horse's head with reins is carried in the right hand. A large gold feather is pinned to the white curly wig of the masquerader. The suit is a red tank top worn under gold ribbed armour with epaulettes. The white trousers are topped with a gold and red belt and tucked into knee high black boots that have gold stirrups over the instep. The costume is completed by red and gold armbands.
