Title: La Cage Aux Folles

Description: Three costumes: two female and one male. The male costume is a military uniform resembling a wooden toy soldier. The tall shako or hat is red with a gold brim and trim and two black chevron shapes on the front. A tall curly, white feather is attached to the front with a gold medallion. The middle costume is female, consisting of a two piece, ragged hemmed, black ballerina costume, decorated with gold and black beads; there is a small spray of white flowers in the hair and a black feather boa over one shoulder; this costume is completed by the long black gloves. The last costume is also female, consisting of a cold-shouldered red, flapper type dress with a beaded shoulder. The masquerader wears a tight black toque on the head which has a a spray of white beads and red feathers; the costume is completed by the white gloves.

Title: La Diablesse

La Diablesse is a mythological character in Trinidad and Tobago - a female demon, she beguiles men and leads them astray.
Female costume consisting of a head piece and suit. The head piece is a large red hat. The suit is a red dress with a shawl collar, petticoats and cuffs in white lace. The skirts are raised to show the masquerader's goat's hoof.

The head piece is a white hat with an upturned brim, yellow hatband and a veil of yellow and white ruffles. The suit is a one piece yellow bathing suit with a deep vee neckline, edged in white. The train is short, white and double tiered, attached to one hip rather than the seat of the suit. The walking stick is striped in yellow and white. The masquerader carries a fringed white scarf in hand. The costume is completed by the flared white armbands and the white ballet shoes.

Title: Ladies of the Ball

The costume is completed by the long white gloves and white shoes.

Female costume consisting of a head piece and a ball gown. The head piece is a blue and gold bird with a fluffy white tail in a wave like pattern, worn over highly piled hair. The dress is a dark green ball gown with a pollonaise styled skirt, with two blue birds folding back the overskirt, which is edged in white pearls. The underskirt is pale blue with a cobalt blue petticoat. The bodice has a small blue frill at the neck and draped sleeves in pale blue.

Head scarves in the same fabric as the hatbands are worn, tied over one ear. The suits consist of white blouses and skirts with wide lace edges, detached sleeves and overskirts in the madras fabric. The suits are Caribbean inspired.

Title: Lady in Green

Description: Female costume. Dominant colours are green and grey. The costume has a beaded bikini top with a semi-transparent skirt that is attached to the waist. The skirt is made out of a wired fabric that flares out like a flare skirt. On the skirt, there are green diamond designs. The head piece is made of this same fabric that projects upward. There are feathers shooting out the top of the head piece that continues around the head piece, across the shoulders, across the back, around the waist and around the skirt. There are beads around the neck and arms.

Female costume consisting of a head piece, back piece and suit. The back piece is a crescent moon in lilac, blue and silver bubble pattern; long cobalt blue feather boas are attached to the back and sides. There are long silvery projections from the crescent, extending beyond the head of the masquerader with a pattern of stars and beads on poles. The head piece is a long silver helmet with a crescent moon on the crown and beaded in silver and blue. The suit is a silver bikini with a metallic cone bra, fringed in silver beads; the pants are held in place with a silver belt made of rings and embellished with blue boas attached to the hips. The costume is completed by the silver upper arm and wristbands and silver roman type sandals.

The chest piece is a tunic like garment with a pattern of waves, long ribbon fringe in blue, green and white and a white fringe around the neck. The trousers are baggy, banded in blue, white and the wave pattern fabric. The costume is completed by the banded blue and white armbands.

Title: Lake Vanda

Female costume which represents Lake Vanda which, at its deepest point is covered with ice some 4 meters thick. The costume consists of a head piece and suit. The headpiece is an irridescent freeform long triangle folded over itself attached to the crown of a helmet covered in small squares. The suit is a one piece pink strapless bathing suit covered in long strips of the same irridescent fabric. The suit is completed by a pair of white armbands to which are attached small bunches of white beads; the necklace is a fall of the same beads.

The suit is a 17th century style, short sleeved dress with a large pannier frame underneath. It consists of a deep v neckline with an off-the-shoulder bodice enhanced with feathers, pearls and lace. The skirt is made in three draped layers enhanced with feathers, pearls, flowers and lace. The dress has an uneven hem in mesh.The masquerader carries a posy made of feathers, flowers and lightning bolts. The costume is completed by the elbow length white gloves.

Title: Leaf Boat

Amarant won Band of the Year in the 1998 carnival competition.
Amarant is the name of a flower reputed to have grown in a secret maze in the legendary city of Atlantis; made up of two dormant butterflies in the form of a flower, only lovers who touch the flower can bring the butterflies to life.
Male costume consisting of a standard, head piece, cape, collar and suit. The standard is a black flag with an image of a baby resting among leaves in the colours of purple, blue and green. The head piece is a crown of green and yellow spikes. The collar is layered in green leaves. The cape is a mesh tunic, worn over the yellow bathing trunks. The costume is completed by the lilac and green armbands and the embossed gold greaves on the shins.

All That Jazz placed 3rd in the 1978 Band of the Year carnival competition.
Male costume consisting of a head piece, back piece, cape and suit. The head piece is a helmet shaped like a lion's, completely covering the face, with a bouffant gold mane. The cape is shaggy, in red, yellow and orange, worn over one shoulder. The back piece is a large circle edged in red, yellow and orange and a black flame pattern in the centre, reminiscent of the flaming hoops used by lion tamers in circuses. The suit is cold-shouldered and black, in a shaggy pattern like hair. The costume is completed by the chains suspended from the arm and wristbands and the peaked front white boots.

The collar is black with four capes attached to each end and all decorated with gold lightning bolts, studded with white jewels on the end, fringed and lined in purple. The suit is a purple tunic, edged in gold with an asymmetrical hem. The costume is completed by the gold wristbands and boots.

Female costume consisting of a back piece, head piece, shawl and suit. The back piece is a piece radiating the sun's rays with alternate yellow and white beaded rays. The head piece is a helmet with a tall crown of spikes and rays in gold, yellow and white, with a flat metallic fringe. The shawl is made up of white interlayered strips of fabric, beaded, worn over one shoulder. The suit is topless, the bottom is made up of the same strips of white fabric as the shawl, with an asymmetrical hem and a white belt with a gold sun medallion attached to one hip. Strings of silver pearls are draped from the medallion across the torso and one shoulder to fall to the floor. The costume is completed by the elbow length white gloves and the metallic tile necklace.

Title: Like a Circle in a Spiral

Main costume is a one-piece white bathsuit with an orange triangular insert from neckline to end, an orange sash or belt worn across the body with a gold and black medallion pattern ending in a long tassel; an orange frill is attached to the one hip. The head piece is a white hat with an orange scarf and large orange fronds attached to the back. The hand piece is a large gold and orange lion's head from which hang orange, white and gold ribbons. The masquerader wears orange armbands which are banded in white and carries a whip. The legbands are orange greaves or Greek ornamental leg shields.

The suit is a silver and pink one piece bathing suit with a pink braid leaf shaped pattern. The masquerader wears knee high silver boots, one of which has a large pink feather tucked in. The costume is completed by the fishnet stockings, single pink thighband and the fingerless pink and white gloves.

A black lace bib runs to the waist and finishes off in a black lace apron; there are also green ribbon and black lace trim at the hem. The belt is pink. The costume is completed by the pink stockings and black shoes.

The costume is completed by the black boots.

The back piece is a large red, gold and black face with two long gold and brown earring like fringes hanging down on either side, emerging from red and gold funnels. The head piece is a closely fitting red helmet with a black banded gold stripe. The collar is a vee-shaped, striped piece with a long fringe hanging down the front. The suit is a one piece navy blue bathing suit. The costume is completed by the white boots.
