Title: Bag Pipes

Description: Section in the band: Strike Up the Band.
Strike Up the Band won Band of the Year in the 1993 carnival competition.
Strike Up the Band was inspired by George Gershwin's work of the same name.
Male costume consisting of a head piece, hand piece and suit. The head piece is a long black fur piece with a plaid border. The suit consists of a red and gold armour plate worn over the shoulders; a red and green fly plaid or cape, lined in green falls over one shoulder fastened by a plaid brooch. The kilt is in the same red and green plaid worn with a gold sporran or bag in a furry fabric. The kilt is held in place with a white belt. The costume is completed by gold wristbands, a plaid bag pipe carried by the masquerader and a pair of white boots with a plaid top.

Title: Balloons

Boy's costume consisting of balloons, head piece, a tunic and mask. The masquerader carries a bunch of balloons in one hand and white ribbons in the other. The eye mask is black, edged in white. The head piece is a large pink balloon attached to a white headband. The tunic is cold-shouldered, black, with a pattern of pink, blue, yellow and white balloons on the hem half of the tunic. The costume is completed by the single blue and black legging and the black shoes.

Title: Baroque Spray

Les Bijoux placed 2nd in the 1997 carnival competition.
Female costume consisting of a one piece bathing suit and a back piece. The colours used are green, gold and silver. The back piece resembles a three-plumed baroque brooch consisting of diamond feathers edged in gold with an emerald spray which extends from the back of the masquerader and over the head. There is also a diamond piece that extends at an angle across the hips of the masquerader. The body suit displays two shades of green: emerald and a dark green. The single legband is a jewelled piece.

Title: Beauty and the Beast

Description: Female and male costumes. Male costume consists of a suit, cape, sash and mask. The waistcoat is white with gold embroidery, worn over a long sleeved white shirt with puffed upper sleeves and a small frill at the wrist and neck. The tights are yellow while the white cape is lined with green and embroidered with gold at the hem. The male costume is completed by the purple sash worn across the body and the gold belt which finishes in a tassel and the gorilla mask worn by the masquerader. The female costume is a white ballet dress embroidered with gold on the front, off-the-shoulder sleeves and skirt. The skirt has a green ribbon hem banded in gold and green tinted white petticoats. The female costume is completed by the spray of small golden flowers and ribbons worn in the hair.

Berkeley: Cirque des Follies is a great mixture of costumes and situations, taken from the Follies Bergere and influenced by the 'Cirque du Soleil'. All the costumes are pure fantasy, and do not relate to any given place or time. It is more like a spectacle, a show of costumes, and in some way relates to jewelry.

Female costume consisting of a head piece and suit. The suit consists of two-pieces: a yellow bikini top and a skirt made of strips extending from the waist to floor level. The head piece is a gold helmet with a small flag extending upwards from a small gold ball. The skirt is a replica of a circus tent with alternating strips of blue and yellow from a narrow top to the wide bottom which also has the addition of white stripes. Blue armbands capped with gold bands complete the costume.

Title: Bird of Immortality

Description: Section in the band: Amarant, the Secret Garden.
Amarant won Band of the Year in the 1998 carnival competition.
Amarant is the name of a flower reputed to have grown in a secret maze in the legendary city of Atlantis; made up of two dormant butterflies in the form of a flower, only lovers who touch the flower can bring the butterflies to life.
Female costume consisting of a standard, head piece, train, belt and suit. The standard is a black flag with an image of a bird resembling a phoenix, in pink, yellow and green. The head piece is a gold leaf wreath with a crown of large pink feathers. The suit is a one piece, green bathing suit. The belt is gold and black with a triangular fringe of pink, gold and white beads. The train is made of tiers of black frills edged in pink and yellow, attached to the seat of the suit. The armbands are the same as the train. The costume is completed by the gold greaves on the shins and the necklace in the same style as the belt.

The suit is a blue and silver bikini the bra of which has a silver bead fringe and the pants of which have an icicle patterned loincloth. The costume is completed by the silver and blue calf and armbands, the latter of which has a long blue and silver fringe.

The head piece is shaped like a pennant, with the face painted in red, dark green, black and brown and with a long stringy brown wig falling to the chest. The suit is a double layered red and gold skirt with a studded belt worn over brown fringed trousers. The costume is completed by the brown wristbands with long fringe and the white boots. The body of the masquerader is painted green, reminiscent of the corrosion on brass.

Description: Male costume consisting of a standard, head piece, shield, collar, loincloth and suit. The standard is a lance decorated with gold and blue feathers. The shield is carried on one arm, made of blue and white feathers with a gold core. The head piece is a white diadem with black symbols inscribed on it, an orange side piece ended with a white fluff and a large blue and white feathered crest. The collar is triangular shaped, blue and white striped, white fringed, with a tassel on the peaked end. The loincloth is white, attached to a white belt and decorated in triangles of blue and gold. The suit is a pair of black bathing trunks. The costume is completed by the white wristbands and the fringed shinbands which have patterned tops.

The head piece and standard are globe-shaped and both as well as the single calf band all have black backgrounds surrounded by circular gold patterns. The cape has a pattern of gold clam like pendants each topped by a white diamond. The masquerader wears a large gold jewel around the neck.

The backpiece consists of large orange and yellow flames which are spread like a tail, the base of which has large feathers in the same colour and long narrow ones interspersed between. The head piece has the same type of feathers interspersed with flame shaped pieces attached to a beaded, fringed helmet. The suit is an orange and gold bikini, the top of which has a high neckline and is beaded; strings of beads are gathered from the bra and then looped around the torso to the back; a beaded, fringed belt is worn over the pants. The costume is completed by the gold and orange arm, wrist and shinbands.

Female costume consisting of a head piece, back piece, chest piece and suit. The back piece is a pair of butterfly wings in green, pink, yellow and blue. The headpiece is a beaded and fringed helmet in the same colours as the wings, with two layers of bushy antennae like sticks projecting from the crown. The suit is a white bikini the top of which has a butterfly shaped chest piece from which is looped silver strings of beads draping around the torso to the back; the pants are covered with a bead fringe belt that is longer in front and falls like a loincloth to the knees. The costume is completed by the shin, arm and wristbands. Long bead strings are looped along the arm and attached to the wristbands.

Title: Byzantine Butterfly

Male costume consisting of a back piece, head piece and hand piece. The masquerader wears a head piece shaped like a monarch butterfly. The butterfly head piece and back piece are both elaborate byzantine patterns studded with multicoloured stones and each wing of which has a large dark jewel circled with diamonds. The suit consists of gold trunks with three large diamonds suspended like a loincloth. The calf bands have the same butterfly pattern with large diamonds on the shin bones.
