Title: Garden of Eden [The]

Description: Female costume consisting of a head piece, mask, back piece, train and suit. The head piece is a white mask, with some green embellishments covering the masquerader's face and with brown twig like appendages behind it. The back piece is made in several parts: the centre is white, with a shape that mimics a dove's wings, attached to the larger outer piece by brown filaments. The top half of the outer circle of the back piece looks like a stained glass window in cobalt blue, turquoise, green and grey held together by the brown lead and edged in a green grass like substance; the lower half is in white striped in white feathers. The train is long, narrow and white at the top, like a dove's tail, widening at the bottom where it becomes brown and edged in white and green. The suit is a white bikini with green edging on the top, embellished with strings of white and gold pearls that drape around the masquerader's body and fall into a loincloth at the front. The costume is completed by the white gloves and wristbands worn by the masquerader and the white, peaked front boots that have green leaves attached to the sides.

Band designed for St Maarten Carnival, 1999.
Fireworks won Band of the Year in the 1999 carnival competition.
All sections in this band depict Berkeley's interpretation of an Independence Day fireworks display.
Male costume consisting of a head piece, back piece, chest piece, suit, train and cape. The head piece is a gold helmet with a crown of radiating gold sunbursts in a 360 degree form. The back piece is a gold ladder like form with intermittent long orange and short gold sunbursts which are topped with gold stars. The chest piece is a blue collar with a pattern of gold sunbursts topping a long narrow triangular piece, patterned in gold stars and banded in gold. The suit is a pair of gold bathing trunks. The floor length cape is orange and edged in blue. The blue cape hangs from one shoulder, patterned in stars and lined in gold. The costume is completed by the blue banded gold armbands and the knee high boots in the same colour scheme.

The pantaloons are pink with a white frill at the knee and a bow. The masquerader wears white stockings and white buckled shoes. The sword is silver and gold and has a gold braid draped over it. The costume is completed by the curled white wig with the pink bow and the floral sash with the gold buckle.

The main body of the costume consists of silver leggings with silver boots that have a gold band at the top. The back piece has several spikes radiating outwards in a sunburst pattern and attached to that is a blue cape lined with orange and edged with gold. The necklace has a tiered silver and gold diamond shaped pattern. Gold and silver arm and wrist bands complete the costume.

The head piece is made of and shaped like a cocoyea broom, a product of coconut tree branches; it is attached to a gold helmet. Another cocoyea broom is carried in the hand. The suit is a tent shaped dress, striped in different colours for both sexes. There is also a white fringed black collar with gold stripes worn over the dress. The costume is completed by the black and white banded armbands.

Male costume consisting of a standard, cape, head piece and suit. The standard is a blue pole topped by a gold lion's head with a curly mane and from which is hung a very long gold tassel. The suit consists of a gold perforated waistcoat from which a floor length gold tassel is suspended, and blue bathing trunks, over which is worn a blue and gold belt in a triangular tile pattern. A long blue cape is worn. The head piece consists of a gold crown with narrow funnels in blue and which widens slightly to the top; it is topped with a small ball from which very long blue and green feathers fall. The masquerader wears a gold eyemask with elongated eyes. The costume is completed by gold upper armbands, wrist bands and gold knee high boots.

Female costume which consists of a two-piece bikini with a gold top and blue pants. There are bell sleeves in gold, turquoise and diamond attached to the top. The masquerader also wears a gold head piece which is fitted on either side of the helmet, curved like rams' horns and interspersed with sapphires. This piece of jewelry is reminiscent of the glamour associated with pre-war Hollywood, around the 1940s.

An orange and yellow floor length cape is worn held together by a gold star shaped brooch ending in a gold tassel; and with a black triangular patterned hem. The suit consists of a black tank top and black bathing trunks. The loincloth is a black and yellow striped diamond shaped piece over which is the second part - an orange strip with gold fringe and a white star pattern. Fireworks won Band of the Year in the 1999 carnival competition..
All sections in this band depict Berkeley's interpretation of an Independence Day fireworks display.
Female costume consisting of a head piece, back piece and cape. The dominant colour of this costume is gold. The costume consists of a bikini, the pants of which are decorated with a beaded gold belt. The back piece consists of a circle of alternate gold fronds, long narrow feathers and long beaded spikes attached to a gold ladder-like form. A short gold cape is worn as well as gold armbands. The head piece is a gold diadem to which is attached a gold frame for the face, short gold feathers at the crown and topped by long narrow feathers. The gold necklace of beads is ended with a long gold tassel.

Title: Grand Canyon

Description: A section of band: Mirage.
Mirage won the Band of the Year in the 1994 carnival competition.
Male costume consisting of a head piece, back piece, shawl and loincloth. The head piece is a gold feathered American Indian Chief's headdress, attached to a purple, black and white beaded headband with small gold bunches of feathers at the side of the temples. The back piece is an elaborate multiform, multilevel object in varied colours which represent the Grand Canyon in the United States of America. The shawl is made up varying lengths of fringed scarves in purple, gold and bronze. The suit is a pair of purple bathing trunks worn under a short loincloth with the pattern of a purple flower framed by purple and then gold, with a gold fringed asymmetrical hem held in place by a gold belt. The masquerader wears a cascading gold bead necklace. The costume is finished by gold fringed moccasins.

The head piece is a peaked gold helmet with a red and gold frame for the forehead, small light and dark blue feathers framing the back of the head, and then long gold and red feathers on the crown. The suit is a blue bikini; a beaded brooch is attached to the bra while the pants have a gold and blue pattern with gold beaded strings looped from one hip. The long yellow cape has two blue and red stripes at the end. The costume is finished with a simple blue calfband and red, yellow and blue armbands.

Female costume consisting of a head piece, cape and suit. The head piece is an elaborate one shaped like a many-pointed star, beaded in purple, silver, white and black, radiating out and over the head, attached to a helmet. The suit is flesh-coloured, worn under a beaded crossed over bodice which is attached to the skirt by a large silver and purple star. The skirt is worn low on the hip, draping from a beaded belt, and made of floor length silver fringe. The cape is made of strings of silver beads attached to the back and the white elbow length gloves, with a short white shoulder piece. The costume is completed by the purple and white jewel encrusted armbands.

Title: Great Maze [The]

Amarant won Band of the Year in the 1998 carnival competition.
Amarant is the name of a flower reputed to have grown in a secret maze in the legendary city of Atlantis; made up of two dormant butterflies, only lovers who touch the flower can bring the butterflies to life.
Male costume consisting of a head piece, back piece, cape, suit, chestplate and loincloth. The head piece is a gold helmet with a gold coronet topped with a crown of pink feathers and irridescent spikes. The back piece is a black and white pair of wings shaped like bats'. The cape is a gold lined in pink and attached to the gold wristbands. The suit is a black and white striped catsuit over which is worn a chest plate and a loincloth both patterned alike. The chestplate and loincloth are shaped like white neckties with a gold diamond pattern. The costume is completed by the gold greaves worn on the legs and the black and white striped armbands.

Female costume consisting of a head piece and suit. The costume is a green two-piece bikini decorated with beads. The belt is y-shaped, gold and embossed with a pattern, from which hangs a fringe of gold beads, shorter in the front and longer in the back of the masquerader. Yellow and green ostrich like feathers are interspersed with long spear shaped feathers attached to the masquerader's back in a circular shape. The head piece consists of yellow and green long feathers attached to a small head piece attached to the crown of the head. The masquerader has yellow hand and legbands banded with green and white.
