Bank of Nova Scotia, now Scotiabank, started out in 1906 with a small branch in Port-of-Spain which was closed one year later. This branch located on the corner of Abercromby Street and Marine Square, today Independence Square was one of the first 12 branches to be established when the bank recommenced operations in the 1950’s.
