Berkeley: Cirque des Follies is a great mixture of costumes and situations, taken from the Follies Bergere and influenced by the 'Cirque du Soleil'. All the costumes are pure fantasy, and do not relate to any given place or time. It is more like a spectacle, a show of costumes, and in some way relates to jewelry. Female costume consisting of a head piece,back piece and suit. The suit is a blue and pink bikini, with large blue feathers attached to the pants like a tail. A belt with one large blue stone and a white beaded fringe is worn over the pants like a loincloth. The head piece is a blue helmet studded with large blue jewels and small gold diamonds and capped with an arch of large blue feathers on the crown. The back piece is a crescent shaped brooch of blue and gold jewels. The costume is completed by white arm and handbands, a long feather boa and high white roman type sandals. The masquerader also wears a head piece with the gemstone attached to a diamond studded diadem. The single arm and calf band are both covered in a tie dyed lilac and blue fabric both ends of which are diamond studded. Gold beads hang from the girdle which is fringed at the end. Section in the band: Heromyth. Heromyth won Band of the Year in the 1989 carnival. Male costume consisting of a back piece, chest piece and suit. The back piece is a series of nine decreasing sized circles on top of each other; the centres are dark pink with a black and white checked border and finished with a white border, worn high above the head. The head piece is a simple dark pink and white spike on a white diadem. The chestplate is a white rectangle with a black pattern that is tucked into a belt. The belt is dark pink, with a black centre and a round buckle with dark pink and white circles resembling a flower. Two white strips of fabric fall from the shoulders and under the arms. The masquerader wears a pair of baggy draped white pants with a black pattern and which are open at the sides. The costume is finished with a pair of silver boots, and dark pink, black and white arm and legbands. The back piece is very elaborate, consisting of two pairs of bat like wings in a multi-coloured stained glass pattern, with a gold pipe organ behind them, embellished with gold globes on several of the pipes and floor length gold fringe hanging from the bottom. The head piece is a white helmet with radiating star like points with small balls interspersed along the spikes. The suit is a bodysuit, the top striped in black and gold, in a chevron pattern and the tights in gold. An embossed gold loincloth is worn over the tights and a similarly patterned gold collar is worn around the neck. The cape is many-layered in blue, green and purple with a gold scrollwork design on the two longest layers. The costume is completed by the white feather like armbands and the gold knee high boots with gold and green diamond pattern. The suit is a white catsuit with a double sleeve in white, with a black curved pattern at the hems. A long black and white chest piece made of numerous circles is worn over the suit. The shield is round, bordered in black and with the image of a ram's head on it. The costume is completed by the white boots.  | Title: Arrowhead Sapphires Author: Berkeley, Wayne Description: Section in the band: Les Bijoux. Les Bijoux placed 2nd in the 1997 carnival competition. Female costume consisting of a back piece, head piece and suit. It depicts a necklace made up of two strings of sapphire gems, to which are attached nine floral motifs decreasing in size from the centre, decorated with cabochon sapphires, brilliant-cut diamonds in the shape of arrowhead motifs. The back piece is a sapphire ring interspersed with diamond arrowheads. The earpieces consist of bunches of sapphires and diamonds extending like bat ears above the masquerader's head. The same pattern is repeated in the loincloth that hangs from the waist to the mid calf. A single large sapphire is suspended from a necklace. The two-piece bikini is silver and so are the armbands. The suit is a pair of blue bathing trunks; a silver braid belt is worn over the suit. The costume is completed by the silver wristbands.
